Reflections from beyond the front door…
Creative Ventures Through Asia Part 5
As we rode the train, especially the longer rides from Matsushima Bay back to Tokyo, from Tokyo to Kyoto, I jotted down notes, and descriptions. I even drew some of the things I’d seen. If I’m being honest, I couldn’t tell you the last time I was out and about, and drew something just for fun. It really helped me meditate on the details, and to start to process what we were experiencing. After we got back, I distilled down various notes, stanzas and meditations - I hope you enjoy.
Reflections from beyond the front door…
Filtered morning light
Cream thread, uneven
Boundless rings clinking, rubbing skin
Oh you with a thousand names
I see your reflection in the mirror
Piercing me through calm blue waters
Exhale, let it settle
Empty space ready for fresh air
Slowly now, let it reach a place deep down
I cannot blame someone for being who they are
Just as they cannot blame me
I find new meaning in expanding definitions of words
New forms of being beyond the sea
Over the red bridge
Wind yanks at my hair
I hear its song, calling
My response is in my unwavering being
Calm and grounded
Bound for the future, but present
Now
Liquid gold runs
along the walls
Held by time and ritual
Birds call from outside
Hopping across the moss
They sing of creation and lives
Intersecting in time and space
I feel your presence
Your gentle nudge
Oh, I am reminded
Of all my possibilities
Around my neck is Africa and Colorado
My fingers, Japan and Korea
My body, home and abroad
The globes, the cosmos
They adorn my being
As I move through each moment
Take another breath
Close your eyes
Meet the air at the end of your graceful nails
Shimmering in morning light
Bask in the joy of how far you’ve come
I am proud of you
All of you, for you are carving out new meaning
Paths where they did not exist
You are imagining yourself into existence
Believing it is possible
Holding true to a vision of the you that awaits
Be prepared to run through the rain
Without thinking about what’s getting wet
Whatever the rain touches blesses you
For you are onto new adventures
Hear the splash of joy, feel refreshed.
